這句話在Lhundub Sopa格西的注釋中翻譯成:「If it happens that someone is living in an austere mountain valley, practicing like a sage, then truly that child was well bred by his father.」(第2冊第384頁第34行)而Snow Lion出版的英譯本廣論譯作:「If there is someone living as a sage in the Valley of Ascetics, then the father has fundamentally raised his child well.」(第1冊第338頁第25行)句子中並沒有提到佛陀–原譯文「文父」容易讓人產生文佛的聯想,依Lhundub Sopa格西的解釋,這裏的父是指上師,而「真養子」(well breded child)則是「...one who come to master all the skills and good qualities of character that his father has to teach.」
所以,祖師伽喀瓦的這句話,大意應該是:「如果能夠以隱士的作風,住在簡樸的山間,才算是得師善教之子。」這句話的原文是:
